Join the AAS for Eclipse Outreach in New Orleans on 6 January

Sanlyn Buxner Planetary Science Institute

The AAS Education Committee is thrilled to partner with NASA’s PUNCH Mission and the Kenner Planetarium in New Orleans to provide a free public outreach event on Saturday, 6 January 2024, ahead of the AAS winter meeting. We invite AAS members and AAS 243 meeting attendees to collaborate with us on helping to prepare the New Orleans community for the upcoming 8 April 2024 solar eclipse.

Interested? Sign up to learn more!

Arrive early before the public event (between 9:30 and 10:30 am) for a FREE outreach orientation, led by the NASA PUNCH Outreach team, and learn more about best practices for public engagement with diverse communities. During this time, you can work directly with PUNCH team members to learn how to facilitate field-tested multi-sensory, multicultural activities to be used that day during the public event.

AAS members are welcome to bring Sun-related activities to engage with the public either inside or outside the museum from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please come even if you do not have specific activities to offer and just want to learn more about doing outreach and using a suite of field-tested activities. Participation in the public event and the pre-event orientation are both free and open to all who want to participate. Please indicate your interest in this event by signing up at this form. (This is not a binding commitment.)

Additionally, we invite everyone to join the workshop on Sunday, hosted by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, to further prepare for eclipse events:
