New Masters in Astrophysics Program at CUNY

We are very excited to introduce our new master's program in Astrophysics at the City University of New York (CUNY) in New York, NY. Our vision is to provide a holistic mentorship experience, a supportive learning environment, and cutting-edge skills training to launch our graduates into PhD programs and/or the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce.

Thanks to the generosity of the Simons Foundation, we are thrilled to offer full financial support for our master's students. This support includes:

  • full tuition
  • $30,000 stipend for each academic year
  • $6,000 summer salary stipend
  • $5,000 annual health insurance supplementary stipend
  • up to $1,000 relocation allowance
  • travel to two conferences in the second year
  • a $2,000 supply stipend

The Astrophysics master's program is designed to be a pathway to success for students of all backgrounds. In this bridge program, we provide a welcoming environment for students to pursue a combination of coursework, research experience, and professional development in writing, presenting, teamwork, and networking that prepares them for doctoral work and for STEM jobs. The pool of research mentors includes CUNY faculty from across the city, plus researchers at the Flatiron Institute Center for Computational Astrophysics as well as the American Museum of Natural History.

We have a virtual open house scheduled for Wednesday, 9 March, from 4:00-5:00 pm ET. Please encourage interested candidates to register to join us.

The application deadline is 30 March for fall 2022. For more information, please email astrophysics@gc.cuny.edu.
